What Would You Do?
Palliser Furniture Ltd. is currently seeking dedicated and detail-oriented individuals to fill the role of Upholsterer. This is a 6-month term position with the potential for extension or transition into a permanent role, depending on performance and organizational needs. Upholsterers take finished frames and components and build/upholster all types of fabric and leather furniture, following proper upholstery procedures and ensuring quality standards are met.
The duties and responsibilities of this position would include:
- Upholster all types of motion and stationary leather sofas, loveseats, and chairs.
- Take finished frames that are on wagons and pull it to their lift table. Frames and materials are then loaded onto a lowered lift table. Upholsterers can raise the lift table to the appropriate working height.
- Prepare and complete the frame with foam, trim flex and cardboard. These materials are usually stapled and/or glued onto the frame. The stapler used is an air staple gun.
- Once completed, they take the sewn cover material (either leather or fabric), pull it over the frame and staple it into place, following the upholstery procedures.
- The piece is then flipped onto its side to staple on the dust cover. The feet are then screwed or ratcheted on the bottom.
- The finished product is then lowered and placed onto a dolly or cart for the end of the line mechanism installer or furniture cleaner to prepare the piece for the next phase of production.
- Work cooperatively with the Team Leader and other team members.
- Other duties as assigned.
What Do You Bring?
- Experience in upholstering leather and fabric furniture is an asset.
- Experience using power tools (air nail gun, air staple gun, etc.).
- Strong communication skills and the ability to learn quickly.
- Attention to detail with strong problem-solving skills.
- Ability to read and understand specifications is an asset.
- Able to foster a culture of quality by focusing on customer satisfaction.
- Must be able to lift, push, pull or carry objects, use abdominal and lower back muscles to provide support over time without fatigue.
- Ability to stand, crouch, bend, reach, and stoop for long periods of time.
- Requires good manual dexterity (hand, hand with arm, two hands) and multi-limb coordination.
- Must be able to work in a noisy environment.
- Ability lift carry and maneuver: 100+ lbs (45.4 kg) from the floor to waist; 50 lbs (22.7 kg) from waist to shoulder; 25 lbs (11.3 kg) above the shoulder.
